The masked flowerpiercer is foraging in the bushes around Guango Lodge in the Ecuadorian highlands. Since this bird is active, Barbara followed it around with a Betterbeamer on her flash to reach the bird. She set the ambient exposure about one stop underexposed and used +1 FEC to optimally light the bird. Though shooting handheld at 1/200 second, the image stabilized lens and the short flash duration produced a sharp image. Nikon D300, 400mm, ISO 1250, f/7.1, 1/200, Flash WB, and a Nikon SB-800 Speedlight.
