This colorful eroding rock and many more like it reminds many of a gnome perched on a pedestal at Devil’s Garden near Escalante, Utah. John darkened the sky by underexposing the ambient by about 1.7 stops. Then he fired a single 1/2 CTO filtered Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite on manual twice using the multiple exposure mode to get enough light. Canon 1D Mark III, 24–105mm lens at 65mm, ISO 500, f/8, 1/100, Cloudy WB.
