Real-Time ADDM and Emergency Monitoring
The previous two chapters focused on monitoring SQL statements on an individual basis as well as conjointly when they are part of a larger group of statements, and both techniques are quite useful under most circumstances. But when a database instance becomes heavily overloaded, begins running miserably slow as compared to expected norms, or even appears to be in a “hung” state, these techniques may be essentially useless, because the overloaded system may become so unresponsive that it’s impossible even to initiate a database connection to diagnose the problem.
