CHAPTER

Oracle RAC Architecture
The first two chapters of this book have set the stage for an in-depth discussion of Oracle RAC databases. This chapter introduces the architecture as well as the key concepts behind Oracle RAC databases.
The goal of this chapter is to show how an Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) database differs from a non-RAC, single-instance Oracle database. It explains the architecture of Oracle Clusterware, the foundation on which an Oracle RAC database runs, as well as that of an Oracle RAC database. You’ll also learn about the key background processes that support Oracle Clusterware and the Oracle RAC database.
