In this chapter we look at considerations and procedures for optimizing the performance in the Oracle RAC environment, which consists of a database opened by multiple instances. Interinstance coordination and communication are necessary to preserve data integrity and other database characteristics. This requires CPU, network bandwidth, and memory resources. However, this need for additional system resources should not impact the end user’s transaction processing time. Techniques mentioned in this chapter should help you to identify and address user response time problems and optimize performance in an RAC environment.
