In the past, QoS in a data center environment has been frequently overlooked. Data centers were built with large bandwidth links, and most applications were isolated to the data center and centralized. Virtualization is changing all those rules because applications are more mobile within and between data centers. Technology enables applications that may have been distributed in the past to be centralized, and the need to differentiate between applications to meet service-level agreements (SLA) is becoming critical.
