Long-Term Care, Healthcare, and Other Needs

Retirement isn’t all exotic trips, fancy dinners, and extra time with friends and family. There will be some trying times after you retire, especially when it comes to your health and the health of your family members. Like it or not, healthcare—and long-term care—needs to be a part of your retirement planning and budgeting. This chapter is meant to be sobering, to make you think, and to help you “get your act together.” We humans often put off thinking about things that aren’t pleasant.

We have moved from family members taking care of the elderly, because they lived nearby, to moving the elderly into long-term care facilities because often the children are miles, or continents, away.
