In August 2008 I was invited to write a book on night photography by Focal Press, something I had thought about doing for many years. I was at Mono Lake in California’s Eastern Sierra teaching a workshop on the subject when I received the call; ironically, my friend Jill Waterman, whose own night photography book had just been published, was a guest at the workshop with me. Jill had freshly printed copies of her book with her, and I was eager to recommend it to my students.
