Summary

An old proverb says that all roads lead to Rome. I would add a qualification, as long as we have an open attitude toward exploring and learning. This is particularly true for boards whose framework and the stage of the career of their members do not readily support an approach of curiosity and learning.

There is no simple rule book to human beings, or anything that includes human behaviour; so I would be the last person to pretend that elevating the performance of the board is as simple, or mechanical, as following some kind of check list. But there are some general truths that we have explored that I believe can make all the difference in creating and running an effective board.
