Introduction

Interactions between the Chair and members of the executive board are a muddy area. The question is, how much direct communication between the Chair and the executive board should occur at all? Will the Chair have regular one-to-one with members of the executive board? What role has the Chair in helping executive board members learn and grow?

BM: A Chair should be more or less free to talk to anybody he likes, but in doing so, you have to respect the hierarchy and can’t undermine or blindside the CEO.
