3.13. Above-ground piping systems

This section sets forth minimum engineering requirements for the safe design of above-ground piping within the property limits of plants handling oil, gas, and petrochemical products.

3.13.1. Piping design

Design pressure
Design pressure for the piping system should be determined in accordance with ASME B 31.3, with the following additions:
1. Where the pressure is limited by a relieving device, the design pressure should not be less than the pressure that will exist in the piping systems when the pressure-relieving device starts to relieve, or the set pressure of the pressure-relieving device, whichever is greater.
