Introduction: A Case Study
In the last chapter, we saw the emergence of the first four great civilizations of the world, Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and China. Gradually, as human cognition develops, the culture of a civilization took over and it becomes harder and harder to determine when evolution was at work, when advances in culture led, or when both interacted as predicted by the various forms of Lamarckism. But here we are, at a point where we haven’t experienced significant biological evolution for a couple of hundred thousand years, biologically 99.9% the same as our Homo sapiens sapiens ancestors.
