22.1 Introduction

In recent years, we have witnessed a dramatic growth in multimedia applications. Many multimedia applications involve real-time video communications over distributed systems, in which there is no centralized controller. Examples of such distributed systems include peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, wireless ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor networks (WSNs).
