13  Digital video broadcasting

Digital video broadcasting (DVB) is the name given to a worldwide initiative to replace the current analogue-based television systems with a digital service. The reasons for the switch over are many and varied:

•  Improved quality of service.

•  The ability to fit more channels into the existing frequency bandwidth.

•  The ability to mix and match services.

•  The ability to provide interactive services and national and regional options from a central facility.
