12.8. CONCLUSION

In this chapter we have explored the Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS). At the time of writing, the VPLS is gaining in popularity and is a valuable addition to a service provider's product portfolio. Because the service is simple for the customer to deploy, the service provider can address a wider range of customers than if they only offered L3VPN and point-to-point Layer 2 services.

This chapter concludes the exploration of services enabled by MPLS. Because of the mission-critical nature of some of the traffic carried by these services, the ability to manage and troubleshoot the underlying network infrastructure is important. This is the subject of the next chapter in this book.
