4.10 QUALITATIVE APPLICATIONS OF INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY
The applications of infrared spectroscopy can broadly be divided into three catagories, viz. qualitative, quantitative and biological applications. In this book we will only talk about the qualitative applications.
By qualitative applications in infrared spectroscopy, we mean functional group identification, skeleton identification and structural elucidation on the basis of spectral observations and any other additional information, if available. Infrared spectroscopy is of great help, if information on elemental analysis is also available. This method enjoys advantage over all other methods, in that it supplies information of whole molecule, composite and whole, but not about protons, as ...
