Key Data Security Principles

When it comes to data security principles, it boils down to this:

Technology: Keep your programs up to date.

Access: Limit user access to only the areas that they need to be accessing.

Authentication: Two factors, if available.

Documentation: Know what users are using and what software is used at the firm. Document this and implement an action plan if things go wrong or someone leaves the firm; plan if there’s a breach.

Confidentiality: This is critical for compliance.

Education: Educate your staff on suspicious e-mails and protocol.
