Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras were originally developed by companies such as Olympus, Nikon and Canon to replace the traditional 35mm still cameras. They operate in the same way as their predecessors, employing a mirror system that allows the viewer to see directly through the lens. How they differ is in the back of the camera where celluloid film has been replaced by a powerful sensor.
