4.1 Introduction
This chapter does not claim to be a treatise on data communications. Rather, it offers concepts that are particularly germane to the practice of data transmission on HFC networks. It is intended primarily to be an introduction to data communications for cable practitioners who have not previously been exposed to the subject. The examples of modulation methods and communications protocols are restricted to those that are most relevant to cable data communications.
