Abstract:
As engineering systems become more complex and include major elements of software as well as hardware, the approach to design has changed. Sequential design methods are being replaced by concurrent design processes. This has been apparent for some time in engineering applications where ‘control-configured’ solutions involving system integration, embedded controllers and multidisciplinary design issues are important, such as in the aircraft industry.
