.NET Core (previously known as .NET vNext) is the general umbrella term used for Microsoft's cross-platform toolset that aims to solve the shortcomings of centralized/machine-wide frameworks (classic .NET Framework) by creating a portable, platform-agnostic, modular runtime and framework.
