CHAPTER TWOThe Pursuit of Work–Life Balance

Overview

Learning to create the proper boundaries is the first step to having a healthy work–life balance. For those working from home, the lines between work and personal life have become increasingly blurred. The home can be filled with distractions, especially if both spouses are working from home. Developing a balance between our personal and professional responsibilities requires a certain amount of discipline and a desire to have a healthy life. One needs to be convinced that their family life, mental health, and emotional health need to become an absolute priority in order to experience happiness. It starts with evaluating our entire day, from the time we wake up till the time we go to sleep, and figuring out what adjustments need to be made.

It requires us asking ourselves questions such as “What nourishes me emotionally and spiritually?” and “What activities calm and relax me?” The next step is to do some introspection and write down all the answers we can. Then, we need to identify which of these activities can be easily, without much effort, implemented into our daily or weekly schedule.
