The Macquarie Dictionary defines a leader as “a guiding or directing head, as of any army, movement, etc.”1 The leadership “etc.” is enormous and includes leadership in the community, family, and workplace. A more expansive definition of leadership is offered by Vince Lombardi, the head coach of the Green Bay Packers football team during the 1960s, as well as a leadership expert: “Leadership is based on a spiritual quality: the power to inspire, the power to inspire others to follow.” Leadership isn’t about telling people what to do; it’s about showing them what to do.
