nslookup
The nslookup command provides a command-line utility for diagnosing DNS problems. All operating systems support this tool. Its most basic function returns the IP address, as shown here:

The nslookup command also offers an interactive mode that enables you to specify a wide range of options as you diagnose and troubleshoot DNS issues. To see the full range of options, type ? at the nslookup prompt in Windows:

In UNIX/Linux/OS X you get the detailed nslookup options by typing man nslookup from the terminal prompt.
