Protecting Backups

Creating a good backup is half the battle; the rest is ensuring that the backup is in usable condition when you need it! Your backup media share some of the same risks as your primary data storage: the chance of theft, for example, or damage from fire, flood, tornado, hurricane, earthquake, and other natural disasters.

A thief who steals your backup copy can restore the data and harvest any secrets contained within the backup set, including saved passwords, financial information, corporate secrets, and personal medical information.
