Networking Windows 2000: What's New
The following list represents some of the completely new features of Windows 2000 Server and Professional that make networking and distributed computing more effective and easy:
Active Directory. A directory service that allows users to work on any computer in the network in their usual environment. All the information about objects in the network is stored in one place and can be accessed from any computer in the domain or trusted domain (if the security checks are passed).
ADSI (Active Directory Services Interface). Any third-party developer can use this standard interface to create his own Active Directory service provider that satisfies his needs.
