Chapter 16. Microsoft Teams Compliance
Compliance for Teams (and more generally in Microsoft 365) refers to the platform’s ability to meet the legal and regulatory requirements that apply to an organization’s data and activities. This can include requirements related to data privacy, security, and retention, as well as industry-specific regulations. Microsoft 365 includes a range of features and tools to help organizations comply with these requirements, such as data encryption, access controls, and auditing capabilities.

It is important to clarify the differences between compliance and governance. Compliance means adhering to specific rules and regulations. Governance means making decisions and setting policies to ensure that an organization operates in a responsible and sustainable manner.
As a collaboration platform, Teams includes many features that can help organizations meet various compliance requirements. For example, Teams offers data encryption, which can help protect sensitive information from unauthorized access. It also includes tools for managing access controls, which allow organizations to specify who can access specific resources within Teams (as you learned in Chapter 15).
