Now that we have discussed how to configure and work with ECTs and External Lists in SharePoint, it’s time to move on to discuss utilizing external list data in SharePoint search. For instance, consider when a user searches for a customer or product. As the data is not stored in SharePoint like a normal list, it does not appear in search results. We therefore need to extend search to use our ECT and index the external data source. This can be easily done if you have SharePoint Server or Search Server (see the “BCS Functional Differences” section earlier in the chapter).
