The first several chapters of this book looked at many of the features of SharePoint, from both WSS Version 3 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. The remainder of the book examines how each of the core Microsoft Office 2007 applications interacts with SharePoint, and along the way you will learn about additional SharePoint features and properties that make working with the server a pleasure. As you have seen, the whole emphasis of SharePoint is on enabling you to share and work in a secure way with information and business applications. In the case of SharePoint, you do this by using a web browser as the application interface to tie the Office applications together and present information using a single tool, the browser. In the old days, Microsoft Access applications were all exclusively written to be run on the desktop, but in recent years there has been a requirement to make more and more information available to internal and external users via a web browser.
