Leveraging Publishing Sites
As stated in Chapter 1, there are two native portal templates in SharePoint: the Collaboration Portal and the Publishing Portal. There is a distinct conceptual and functional difference between the two portal versions. As its name indicates, the Collaboration Portal not only presents content (information) on individual pages, but it also presents the organizational structure of other sites along with the links to easily access those sites. The Publishing Portal, however, is designed to present information within the site pages themselves and possibly within subsites of the Publishing Portal.
