Overview of Out-of-the-box Workflows
Workflows are provisioned in SharePoint Server 2007 site collections as features and are built on the Windows Workflow Foundation. Each type of workflow includes a custom workflow template specific to the type of workflow activity. For instance, the template that underpins the approval routing workflow includes the ability to assign workflow tasks to all participants at the same time (parallel workflow) or one participant at a time (serial workflow).
