Using Date and Time Functions
When Excel recognizes a date value, the corresponding cell is automatically formatted as a date. For example, the value 10-7 is interpreted as October 7th of the current year, and the cell is formatted accordingly. Any subsequent entries made in this cell will be displayed as date values. So, for example, entering the number 123456 will display 1/3/2238. (See the section titled The Excel Date System later in this chapter for more information about these numbers.)
