Azure Files
Overview
Microsoft introduced the Azure Files service in September 2015. It provides support for the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol and a whole host of features to enable organizations to migrate from on-premises file storage hosted on Windows Servers to the Azure Cloud. Over the years, several features have been added to Azure Files, including the following:
Support for Network File System (NFS) protocol for access using Linux and MacOS clients
Storage encryption for secure data hosting
Integration with Azure Backup for seamless backups and restores
Low latency data access through caching features of Azure File Sync with on-premises file servers using SMB and various other features
