First English
Parliament
A
group of barons led by Simon
de Montfort had taken control of
England and captured King Henry III
in battle. The baron rebels wanted to force
Henry to keep some important promises
made by his father, King John, like the
ones written in Magna Carta.
One important demand was for the
king to meet with representatives of the
people and take their advice. So, in 1265,
the barons decided to hold a parliament.
