INTRODUCTION
As the reader would have gleaned from Chapters 1 and 2, there is much written on sustainable development (SD) and the use of sustainability indicators (SIs) as a tool to help with the gauging of attainment. The literature is vast and expanding rapidly, and both the authors can readily confirm that one can quickly become lost within the detail. Perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised at this, after all:
