Humans do not identify objects by performing measurements and testing shape factors. Some processes are apparently deeply wired into the brain, such as the visual awareness of faces. The essential elements of the perception process can be described as a semantic or syntactical definition (Sonka et al., 2008):

1.  A face is an approximately circular part of the human body that contains two eyes, one nose, and one mouth.

2.  The nose is approximately centered in the face and is vertically elongated.

3.  The eyes are located above the nose, are approximately circular, and are symmetrically placed to the left and right of center.
