Bill Westenhofer has won two Academy Awards for achievement in visual effects, for The Golden Compass and Life of Pi, with a further Oscar nomination for his work on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Those three films, which are just part of Westenhofer’s substantial contributions to the industry, evidence the supervisor’s strong affinity for creating realistic computer-generated characters.
Westenhofer developed a love for animation early on. “I was always drawing and painting as a kid,” he says. “In fact, I made flipbooks in first grade to try to get people’s milk money. I’d grab some paper and staple it together and make little flipbook animations.”
