Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, the Na’vi in Avatar, Caesar from the new Planet of the Apes films—these are all characters that senior visual effects supervisor and Weta Digital director Joe Letteri has helped create. He has fostered a continuously innovative approach at the New Zealand-based studio, winning four visual effects Oscars (for The Two Towers, The Return of the King, King Kong, and Avatar), and picking up five further nominations in the process.
