Chapter 5. Managing Hyper-V Using VMM
Microsoft originally released Hyper-V in 2008, several months after releasing Windows Server 2008. Hyper-V is Microsoft's first software-based native (type 1) hypervisor. It is specifically designed to provide a higher level of isolation, stability, and scalability compared to previous virtualization offerings (i.e., Virtual Server 2005). This technology is similar to Citrix XenServer and VMware ESX/ESXi Server.
This chapter will focus on managing Hyper-V using VMM. We won't actually detail the differences between the various hypervisors as this would be out of scope for this chapter and book.
