Harold MacMillan, British Prime Minister, once said that the most likely thing to blow a government off course was ‘Events, dear boy, events’. Events may be unforeseen, some of them apparently undramatic, but they may nevertheless threaten a business’s survival.
Many risks can be managed and mitigated down to acceptable levels, as this book has shown. Some things, however, cannot be prevented. The best we can do is to have in place plans which will mitigate the effects as best we can. President Eisenhower once said ‘Plans are useless, planning is indispensable’. It won’t be exactly as planned, but you have thought about it.
