1. In reference to Icarus, a hero of Greek mythology who escaped from the labyrinth where he was imprisoned by constructing a pair of wings out of beeswax and feathers and flying away. Emboldened by his success, he ignored his father’s warnings and flew higher and higher. He got too close to the sun, the wax melted, and his wings fell off. He fell into the sea, which became known as the Icarian Sea.
2. In the context of agency theory, the term “agent” is used in the etymological sense of “performer” and “actor.”
