Queuing-based malware diffusion modeling

Abstract

In this chapter, we present a generic malware diffusion modeling framework that is based on principles and tools from queuing theory and capable of describing malware diffusion dynamics in static and dynamic complex networks for SIS node infection paradigms. After introducing the basic concept, we initially present the framework for distributed wireless networks with fixed topologies, e.g. ad hoc, sensor networks, and then present an extension for other types of complex networks, which are characterized by dynamic nature that involves node and edge churn, i.e. network topologies where nodes enter and leave the network causing link addition/deletion as well.
