In one way or another, this entire book is about configuring and using your Mac in such a way that your privacy is maintained and your data is secure. Some ways of protecting your security require the use of third-party software or modifications in your behavior. But a number of security steps require nothing more than a few mouse clicks in one preference pane or another.
Accordingly, this chapter is about all those basic security settings. For the most part, everything you do in this chapter involves changing settings in Mac OS X's System Preferences.
