Memory

The Memory control panel (Figure 53) enables you to set options that determine how RAM is used in your computer. On most computers, it controls the following three options:

  • Disk cache is RAM set aside for storage of frequently used computer instructions. The recommended disk cache setting is 32 kilobytes (K) of cache for each megabyte of installed RAM.

  • Virtual memory is hard disk space used as RAM. For efficient performance on a computer with a PowerPC processor, virtual memory should be turned on and set to default settings.
