The 1970s

The 1970s were a time of re-evaluation of the shifts that had taken place in the 1960s, and consolidation. I was ready and prepared for this re-evaluation, but Nick ploughed on with his stylistic choice, as I think so many successful architects did from our generation – a result, I felt, of the Architectural Association’s branding process. With the success of Park Road and with Nick and me moving into adjacent penthouses there, we were seen outwardly as a successful partnership, but privately the imbalances and frustrations were beginning to emerge.
