3 The eye and perception
The human eye is often likened to a camera. It does have broad similarities, but the parallel can be very misleading. As in the camera, the amount of light admitted to the eye is controlled by an iris. The image of the scene is focused by a lens onto a light-sensitive surface. But there the similarity ends, for eye and brain are, in fact, remarkably deceptive.
