This work is dedicated to my mother, the painter Elisa Ramos who, through her palette and through her life, conveyed the extraordinary importance of light and colour. She looked for beauty with a special sensitivity and discovered new and changeable lights that colour reality. She opened my eyes to the vibrations of shadow, the emotions of colour and the power of light; most importantly, she taught me to enjoy light. And as I discovered light as the central theme in architecture, I knew that I wanted to deepen my knowledge, to scrutinise its secrets and to study its laws. So began my research to understand just how deeply light can determine a project in diverse historical and geographical circumstances.
