GNU Manifesto

Another fundamental document of the Free Software Foundation is the GNU Manifesto. The Manifesto describes why the Free Software Foundation exists and what it intends to do. Even more fundamentally, it describes the foundation’s vision of the software community. You may not agree with it, but you ought to read it. It’s significantly longer than the license (though not terribly long), so we won’t reprint it here. If you have kept the GNU Emacs source files on the system, you will find the manifesto in the file “emacs-source"/etc/GNU, where “emacs-source” represents the directory in which you placed the Emacs source distribution. It’s also in the GNU Emacs Manual.
