One sign of self-awareness is realizing when you are getting in your own way. Consider the pharmaceutical firm that ran into problems with a regulatory agency. The R&D leader of the company thought the government was being unfair and even punitive in the restrictions it was placing on one of the firm's products (resulting in a more narrowly defined scope of use).
