8 Digital image management and manipulation
This chapter deals with the aspects of digital imaging concerning the images themselves: their representation, manipulation and storage, as they move through the imaging chain. Digital images are, at their most fundamental, sets of numbers rather than physical entities. A key difference between working with traditional silver halide photography and digital images is the vast range of options available, before, during and after image capture. It requires an understanding of all aspects of the imaging chain and the implications of the various processes to ensure optimum results.
